If you don't know Dartford and the surrounding areas, then you also need to be aware that commuting by car is likely to include a trip along the A2, which is so busy at rush hour that you'd be lucky to get out of 2nd gear.

Was going to say it's a nightmare too. You might be better going against the London traffic, but then there are a lot of big towns which drivers are also going to be heading towards in the opposite direction.

I had a friend in Rainham which she liked, and another I've a close friend who has moved from a £1m+ house in Hammersmith to a house in Gravesend (for half the price) She's really liking it there and can get into London in less than half hour. I used to stay there a lot (well, nearby in Cobham which feels like the middle of nowhere). Meopham was also nice enough - my ex's sister raised her family there. The ex also had friends in Vigo and Longfield which seemed nice. Vigo was often very foggy!

  • Dartford itself is a bit dull IMHO. Depending on your needs nearby areas might be nicer.
Do you need daily access to London?

Ashford, Kent is also an option, 40 mins train to London St Pancras, shopping outlet here and all amenities you need

but it'd not very convenient to Dartford, though is it?

no direct train and a horror of a car journey at 7-9 am
