Insurance options when changing cars

I'm not suggesting that our insurers waive their charges for us, nor am I moaning or complaining!
I've never cancelled a policy and I expect when most cancellations occur there is a refund at stake, less the administration fee. If I were to cancel I think the fee would be double what the remaining insurance is worth so was curious if a cancellation would be dealt with differently in those circumstances.
As it appears there are no obvious alternative options we'll explain the situation to the insurers, swap the car over and pay whatever charges are levied.0 -
I was in the same position a year ago. We drove to look at a secondhand car, bought it, I rang my insurers and switched to the new car, they agreed to extend the old cover by one day so we could drive both cars home, and I taxed the new car at the first PO up the road on the way home.
It cost about £20 with Privilege. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

If our insurers act in a similar manner I'll be happy with that, and if they extend the existing policy for a day as in your case I've just got to let the dealer know and they'll sort the tax for us.0 -
Some dealers have a free 7 day insurance to cover your new purchase.0
