Bluebottle infestation after dead mouse/rat

Hey all. I'm a newbie here and sorry if I'm in wrong thread or it's been covered before but I'm just at my wits end and I can't goggle anymore. I need to speak to real people lol

I just moved into my house in August. It had been empty for 7 months as had the house next door. When we got in everything was clean, it was a sound house. Tour forever home. After about a month we started to hear the potter patter of tiny feet, the four legged furry kind. We put out traps and nothing. Couldn't get them. They never actually came out, there was no poop nothing. If you didn't hear them you wouldn't know there were ther

After two months of not being able to catch them we decided to put poision down in the attic. Boom!! They took the poision. This was start of December. Then ok 11th December I had the most horrific smell in my bedroom. Must have been from a dead rat/mouse. I got some dead rodent odour satchets and it made th smell bearable.

Thought everything was good. Smell had left, no more sounds until 5 days ago. I went into my room and noticed 6 blue bottles. I thought. This is strange and got them out the window. Then next day 5 more. Then it clicked. Is it from the rodent. I headed into th attic and it looked like a horror movie. At least 40 all over the window. I closed the hatch went to Homebase to get those sticky fly killer strips. Came home and opened the window to let them out and put up the strips

My first question is do you think those flies are from you the dead one I started smelling in December 5 weeks ago or is it a new dead one?

How many flies do you think I'm gonna end up wiwith h?

Once the dead animal is fully composed will there be no more flies?

Looking forward to your help. I just want to enjoy my house without worrying about mice/rats or flies

Can you open the loft window to let them out? It'll be a one off. It's one of the pitfalls of using poison.
  • Yup windows opened now so hopefully the wee !!!!!!s blow off 😂😂

I learnt the hard way too.

Now I only use traps. No rotting corpses in inaccessible places. The poison is also a slow death.

Have you blocked off where the rats are coming in?

I had a similar thing happen. I think I got 2 generations of flies, but then nothing and all sorted.
  • Yes we have blocked off all access that we can see. We think they where coming in through the garage.

Oh it's a nightmare. Add this and a pup who just had surgery and our house isn't much fun ATM lol
  • These aren't blue bottles, they're cluster flies (look like a blue bottle, but smaller). They're seasonal, (they come in to houses as the weather gets colder) so although they may have been linked to the corpse in the loft, they also might reappear next year. Google 'get rid of cluster flies' for some handy hints.

  • House has been scrubbed from top to bottom and these flies are still appearing every day. We are getting about 20 per day. Can you post photos to these forums. I took a photo as I don't know if it's a cluster fly or a blowfly

You'd need to upload the photo to an online site and link to it in your post, eg imgur
