Thanks for your response Davesnave. In the interests of balance, am posting this to tell any interested parties that I have received an apology from the MD of Greenspace Conservatories who says that the offending salesman was a new chap who has now left their company 'by mutual consent'. Make of that what you will but there was no offer of re-instating the 'discount' (still don't know what it might have been) so I guess they are just glad to see the back of me. For a complete 4x3m conservatory that very recently cost me around £10K, a replacement roof from Greenspace costing £12,436 seems somewhat excessive. I shall continue my search for a heat-reducing solution.........0

Had my share of problems with a conservatory company. I still owe them £4k, but to get it they must now go through the small claims court, because their regulatory body has refused us arbitration.
I consider that a fair indication that I'd win!0 -

Primarily it has largely removed the glare which was so bad before you needed sunglasses and does seem to have been successful in blocking out UV light.
In terms of cooling it brought the average temperature down from an unusable 40C in the height of summer (south facing) to an uncomfortable but usable 30C. We may get some solar blinds for the front windows next year which might reduce the heat a bit more.
The conservatory was here when we bought the house, I wouldn’t have one by choice and I wouldn’t spend any more than we did on reducing heat, glare and UV. I certainly wouldn’t spend a fortune on a proper roof which I’d imagine would just make it dull and gloomy.
Wish i was sitting in it now,we live in the NE of England and the weather has been pants for the last two/three weeks.
When my mother in law was alive i used to love going for sunday lunch in the summer so i could sit in her conservatory with a cold beer whilst nobody else would use it as it was "too hot ":rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Thanks all for responses. I am considering an interior roof insulator from Comfortable Conservatories. The price quoted is substantial though not a lot more than high quality roof blinds. Anyone considering roof blinds for a conservatory might really consider getting three or four quotes as prices vary widely in my experience. From various conversation threads I've read, blinds may deal with the glare but not the build up of heat. Anyone who has bought an interior roof insulation package -I'd be grateful for feedback on efficiency in heat reduction.0

Sporty OAP,
I don't know if you went ahead with Comfortable Conservatories. If not I strongly suggest you read the reviews online; not those reviews on their website. Very scary indeed.0 -
So you live in Southampton? And they quoted £12K and then discounted to £9.5K? Interesting. Perhaps you could enlighten us as to what reason they gave you that you could have the discount then, but not at 8 a.m. the following day? Whatever they said, it is a lie. The discount is built into the price, they then offer you the discount, but to get it, you have to sign up there and then. My response, I will decide in my own time, if I come back to you, and that discount, or better, is not available, you won't get the order.
I live in the midlands, yesterday, I was told that we would be the first client in our area, a foot in the door so to speak, and as such, they would offer me, yes, a discount, £20K down to £16K, approx. however, sigh, he had another client that evening in the same area, so if I didn't take they offer, they probably would. Umm. Like I believe that?:(
During the pitch, he said he had been to 2 other houses that day, yes, in our area. So apparently, they had no enquiries in our area at all, then suddenly 4 come along at once? :rotfl::rotfl:
Also, earlier in the week, I had been offered an appointment, when, funnily enough, their rep was in our area.
He also showed us testimonials, from satisfied customers, very good it seems, however, um... one of them was in our area... he dismissed that saying it was a few years old.
Interestingly, regarding the first sale in the area idea, he had a little diagram, a red person surrounded randomly by black ones, representing the new customers he hoped we would get, for the discount. Um.. how often do they sell in new areas? This diagram was laminated, and had seen some use. :rotfl:
You might have guessed, I didn't go for it.:rotfl:
PLEASE, EVERYONE UNDERSTAND THIS. THE DISCOUNT IS BUILT INTO THE PRICE, THE DISCOUNTED PRICE IS THE CORRECT PRICE. ALL THAT CHANGES IS THE STORY THEY TELL YOU TO CONVINCE YOU THAT YOU HAVE TO BUY THERE AND THEN TO GET THE DISCOUNT. 8 A.M. THE FOLLOWING DAY IS TOO LATE!!
The story he relayed to me was actually a new one on me. However, here are some older ones:
They produce a piece of paper, signed by the boss, saying that they are to be given a discount if they agree their home may be photographed afterwards. Guess what, he looks in his briefcase, and it's the last one!
The discount period ended yesterday, but I can back date it one day and no one will question that, as I am passing on my contracts tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. so after that it will be too late.
he says "I am not a salesman, he couldn't make it, I am the surveyor (or whatever, I work PAYE so if you buy from me today, we can subtract the salesman's commission, or if you want, you can book another appointment with the salesman tomorrow and pay full price."
TELL THEM STRAIGHT, YOU KNOW THE DISCOUNT IS BUILT IN! YOU WILL DECIDE IN YOUR OWN TIME. NO DISCOUNT? NO SALE!0 -
We have done a fair amount of work with these roofs and their appearance is purely a personal point of view. Polycarbonate can also look ugly. However they do have substantial benefits over other methods of replacing a conservatory roof. They work with any PVCu or aluminium conservatory, they are dead simple to fit in most cases, just one day. They also vastly improve the comfort of a conservatory.
There are substantial considerations with fitting a new conservatory roof - the most important being no additional weight on the structure. This is where these roofs work well. They are highly insulated and incredibly light.
You can read a full review of these roofs here ...
Happy to help anyone out if you'd like more information.
Nick
Thank you Nick. I was as I say quoted ~£16K from Greenspace, who incidentally tell people they manufacture as well, when a local window company has quoted £8.5K for a tiled, insulated roof with velux windows. I have seen examples of their work before, it is of good quality. I find it hard to believe your assertion that your panels are a cheaper alternative. :mad:0 -
I was looking at the option of this company (having received a flyer in my bag when I bought some ceramic cookware!) as I want to reduce the heat in my conservatory, which came with the house i bought a few years back.
Did some googling for reviews of course, and fwiw, came across this comment (but no reviews!)

"This Company ((Greenspace Conservatories UK)) has has no connection to Eco Home Improvements Ltd and should not be using the name Eco home Improvement as we are a registered company and I will be reporting to Company House and trading Standards if this is not removed immediately".
I'd like to thank everyone who's contributed to the thread for also helping to put me off this company - though the clearly ridiculous price might have something to do with it too!I'll be looking at blinds instead!

Has anyone any more recent info about this company please? My dear neighbour has had a quote, with a discount, but it still sounds expensive. I’ve looked at online reviews, they’re very mixedDownshifted
