Hi
Can anyone help us?
We had our French doors fitted back in 2002 by a company called Express windows.
The lock on one side now won't work right and we can't lock the door properly.
The company have gone bust - we can't find anything about them....
We have a 10 year guarantee from them and also, as we took the finance deal out, we also have a double indemnity.
We have now paid the finance off but desperatly need to find out if there is anything we can do to get the door repaired??
Can anyone offer any advice as to what we are best to do? Any help greatly apreciated!
Thanks

If it is the lock ( not the handle ) it's an easy repair. Post back if you want more info.0

It appears that it is the internal locking system that isn't working. It doesn't appear to be the handle. When you push the handle up it should make the mechanism all move but it doesn't. We have managed to move the bits by hand but when you do it normal it won't budge. Hope this makes sense? It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice0

Hope this makes sense? Yes!
The lock is def ok . Does the mechanism operate/ slide up and down properly with the door open ? sometimes Upvc doors req; adjusting .0 -
Yep, but only by hand. We can't make it go up and down with the handle.
we only got married 3 weeks ago, just back from honeymoon and can't afford repair costs! It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice0 -
Most of these mechanisms are replaced as a whole unit , your problem is trying to identify the manufacturer, with the D G firm going bust . There will be local companies who will be able to identify it, and do door repairs , sorry to say think this is your only option , the last one I purchased was about £80 of course there would be a fitting charge as well .0

Thank's. I fear it may end up an insurance claim but we need to get it sorted. You've given us some good advice xIt's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice0

Hi Nutty,
From your previous posts it sounds like to locking mechanism has failed (exactly as eco said). We have replaced a few of these where the cam in the lock has worn/failed, there is no repair its a new unit. In Manchester (Trafford park) there is a buisiness that supply replacements - I was surprised at the many different types. (sorry not more help)0 -

who is the double indemnity with...?
we had windows fitted 7 years ago and are covered by a ten year guarantee, when we had to have 3 windows changed (cos they where blown), we just quoted the invoice number/certificate number to the fitting company (who are still in business - phew), they then contacted the manufacturers and arranged for the replacement windows.smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....
