Apply before name change or after?

I'm thinking about changing credit card, since they have taken away the monthly reward on the Halifax card, but am getting married in April. I usually make sure I open any accounts before I move house because I know that messes up your credit rating for a few months but will changing my name have an effect on my credit rating? I was thinking of making sure I do it first just in case but my parents thought it would be better to do it after. Any ideas?

TIA

Comments

  • Personally I'd do it first them notify them after of the change(s)
  • Agree with venison - if anything a name change *may* complicate matters if they can't find you on the electoral roll etc. They have a duty to complete the Know Your Customer (KYC) checks, if they suspect anything potentially dodgy, they'd need to ask for sight of ID etc etc.

Make it easy, do it before, get and activate the card, notify them after :)
