Receiving Payments - best options?

Hi
Haven't used eBay for quite a few months, and want to clear out a few bits & pieces.
Don't really want to accept Paypal anymore so what do people reckon are the best payment options to go with now? I'm for cheque and bank transfer - what about postal orders?
Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A

Probably the safest way to receive payments is by bank transfer. However if you actually want to sell stuff at a reasonable price then you may have to rethink paypal as so many buyers like myself wouldn't even see a non paypal auction. The less buyers you have interested in your items the less the closing price is likely to be.

  • Cheque, bank transfer, postal orders.. all good!

I find postal orders most convenient out of the above methods... But only if it is "uncrossed"... if it is "crossed" you will need to deposit the payment in your bank.. meaning you will have to go out of your way to deposit it... but uncrossed postal orders can just be exchanged for cash at the post office, which is very handy, as you will have to go there to post the item anyways...
So do state on the listing if you would mind the postal orders being crossed or not. :o

  • Some banks will also let you pay in crossed POs direct to your bank account using your card, at the post office (smile, cahoot etc.)

  • Thanks for all the advice. I do, realistically, realise that ignoring Paypal as a payment option might be cutting off my nose to spite my face, but after reading so many horror stories about Paypal lately it's putting me off slightly.

Personally I've, in 6 years, never had a problem but they seem to be getting worse. The fees are terrible as well! Luckily I don't sell anything of 'value' as such, just odd bits for a couple of quid here and there so a chargeback or suchlike isn't a massive problem.

Oh well, I'll offer it but as a last resort!
    Thanks again!

  • Don't worry about paypal, it is safe and it does yeald better prices. You never see a thread about 'Ive just sold XXX for £XXX by paypal and there were no problems' yet it happens all the time. People only put problematic transactions on here and this is usually because they haven't stuck to the rules of safe trading.
  • Search this forum for 'micropayments' if most of your incoming paypal
    payments are small.

  • I spent 4 months not accepting paypal & i have begrudgingly gone back to accepting it again. As stated above it does result in more sales & higher prices. If its items of value just make sure you post to "confirmed" addresses.
