My ticket says £7 i was charged £12...

Just purchased a top and although the ticket said £7 and i questioned the cashier, she went to the sale rack and came back to say "all the other tops are £12 so i cant do anything. Do you still want it?" I asked "If the ticket says £7 dont you honour it? And she no. Is this true?

As far as I know {and I could be wrong} the shop has offered to sell but does not need to agree to the price stated on a tag and you then have the choice to walk away.

Shop assistant is correct..... for the reasons above.

A price ticket is an "invitation to treat", payment is an offer, acceptance of payment is the acceptance. It is only at that point that the contract is made.

Whilst it is actually illegal to sell something at a higher price than marked, the problem and defence in this case is probably that someone else put the £7 label on in error.
