I have a similar sized petrol engine 4X4 and struggle to better 22mpg.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

I also have a petrol 4x4. I can get 35-40 on a decent urban trip, mid 40s at motorway speeds.
However a 2014 engine is more efficient than one from 2005, back then the older version of my car may have done 30mpg on a good day.
My last diesel auto was an X type which did 40mpg at a push.0 -
Colleague of mine was getting around 36mpg from a td4 manual over 100 miles/day of motorway, over the last 5 years or so, on all terrain tyres. It had well over 250k on the clock when he got rid of it a few weeks back. I'd expect the auto to be a little worse than that, but not much.
On the twisty lanes though, it could be much worse. If it dropped below 30 I'd be looking for a cause.
My 2005 Discovery 3 auto averages 27mpg on all terrains (also diesel), and that weighs around a ton more than the Freelander!0
