Car hire - do not rent
Options
Have needed car hire due to an accident but the comp providing have said they won't hire us one due to an issue with a previous car hired in 2010. There is no recollection of this and we've never had any correspondence to any affect on this matter. They've advised that until outstanding amount is settled then they won't rent. Is there any rules on length of time this can be chased. Not sure if they are going to Perdue us for payment as this has now been raised but they hadn't for the last 6-7 years. Any advice would be helpful. Ta

Was there an incident? If so what was it and how was it resolved, if at all?0

A debt never dies.
But the creditor only had 6 years to take legal action.0 -
As stated they can only pursue the debt for 6 years (5 in Scotland). But that doesn't mean they have to ever do business with you again.0

Exactly as above, they can take you to court for the debt for upto 6 years.
After 6 years they can no longer take you to court but they can leave it on file that you owe them money and ask you for it if you need to use them again.
EDIT looks like i need to type a lot faster.. post above appeared after i had finished typingCensorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Presumably you can go elsewhere, in which case easily sorted.0

Thanks. We don't recall any incident and it would have been through an insurance company and covered in any hire agreement I'm sure anyway. We have never had anything from either about anything so we don't really know? Haven't moved address, email or telephone numbers so they'd have every opportunity. Main prob is the insurer said we had to use them and I think many insurers use them for car hire if your motor is in for repair. We won't be paying as we don't know anything about it and am always very conscious of damage and signing in and out of hire vehicles so assume this will rear its head again at some point but thanks for responses in regard to them not being able to Persue further

Have you asked hire company for details?
Go somewhere else for car repair i.e. where they give you a courtesy car."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

They aren't giving much away just that we owe x for damage? Said their system doesn't go that far back so only have a few details! We got car from garage it's just not neccasarily what we require really. 3 door mini against our normal 7 seater. Not easy getting 2 kids in the back!!!! Not much drama tho just slightly annoying for something we know nothing about.0

Do you hire cars a lot?
I rarely hire them and I'm sure I'd recall an accident in one so recently. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0
