AMEX British Airways - Direct Debit

Hi All,

I just activated my new BA credit card, and tried to set up the direct debit. Note that this is my first CC, after 10 years of thinking of getting one..

As soon as set up the direct debit, I was shown this message: "Please note: Your Direct Debit will not take effect until after your next statement is generated on 10 Feb 2017. Please continue to make payments by other means until your Direct Debit commences."

What does this mean? Can I not use the card until the 10th of Feb?

Regards

Nick.

  • No. It means you need to pay your card by other means until the DD is effective.

If you have just activated your card, won't your first statement be the one produced on 10th Feb? In which case, the direct debit will apply to the charge on that statement.

i am thinking that statement from your credit card was for people who have had the card for a while but are only now getting around to setting up a DD. So any money owing till that is set up will need to be paid for manually.

In addition, I suppose it means if you get any statements dated before 10th Feb, then you have to pay these off manually.

It means that your next statement is due 10th Feb and the DD will not be active until after that statement is generated. You will need to pay off that statement manually (unless of course it is active by then and the statement clearly shows that payment will be taken by DD)
  • Your statement will say if the balance/min payment is being taken by DD, which incidentally will be over a week before the payment due date. Make sure that you allow for that in budgeting.
