I was angered by the latest "tips" newsletter, since it included favourable mentions of two extremely disreputable travel agents. While the statement made about them was factually true (they do indeed offer a discount to people who book both flights and hotels through them) the newsletter should also have mentioned that a high proportion of their customers do not actually receive the goods and services for which they pay.
Anyone who so much as looked at the forum on flights and travel would know this. Equally, the advice in a recent MSE team blog post (about getting a cheap flight to the Philippines) contradicted much of the advice frequently given by experienced travellers on the forum, and in several respects is simply wrong.
If MSE is serious about its claim to stand up for the consumer, then at the very least it should refuse to accept money from the likes of eDreams (and the sites that they own, Opodo and LastMinute). And if they have any idea of maintaining professional standards then people who write team blogs should be required to browse relevant sections of the forum and generally inform themselves about the topic in question before setting pen to paper.
