Switching from OVO to so Energy. Need Advice.
So for the last year we have been with OVO Energy on the Better Energy Fixed Online (All) traiff.
We currently pay £65 a month set price.
Gas is 2.21p/kWh
Standing Charge 27.40p
Elec Day is 11.85p/kWh
Elec Night is 6.43p/kWh
We are also on Economy 7.
So my questions are:
1. Are we better going off Economy 7?
2. The new provider I am looking at is So Energy. Now if I put in my kw usage for the year for gas and electricity for the year So Energy say it will cost £78 but if I put in in £ how much gas and electricity we use a month say £20 electricity and £45 gas the quote comes out at £58 a month. Why is this different?
Their charges are:
Gas Standing Charge 18.90p
Gas Unit Rate 2.73p/kWh
Elec Standing Charge 18.90
Elec Unit Rate 12.58p/kWh
Am I doing the right thing going with So Energy as I am finding it really hard to find a supply that can match the p/kWh I am on (even though that ends on Fed 17th).

Can I ask why are you on Economy 7 if you have gas? Do you use more electricity overnight or during the day?
As to the new prices, you are very unlikely to get something near to where you were before as the prices of these have all shot up in the last few months sadly.0 -
There is no reason for us being on E7. We have a gas cooker but thats it, our central heating is via gas0

You do not supply the necessary information to give you a specific answer.
Consult a comparison site to find the best deal for you.
You can also find out using a comparsion site whether or not E7 is cheaper for you, but as you are already with an E7 meter, to change to a single rate tariff will often require a change of meter and possibly an associated charge (typically of about £50-£60 where applied)
You will always get the most accurate results from a comparison site by inputting your anticipated annual consumption in kWh.
Prices have risen significantly since the summer, and you will struggle to secure similar prices to a good deal you secured 6-12 months ago. It's not just about comparing unit prices, it's about the cheapest annual cost - that is something a comparison site will show you0 -

I cannot speak for the OP, but we have E7 (and have had for many yaers) because it saves us money.
E7 provides 7 hours per day of cheap rate electricity.
We have gas central heating. We use more electricity during the day than we do at night ... but we still save money (or the difference has always been so small it has not warranted us changing)
For anyone with an E7 meter, a comparison site will soon indicate the difference in cost.
(The break even point for E7 varies by supplier and supply region)0 -
Hi guys, thanks for the response.
I've put my usge into a comparison website, with my yearly usage. For my E7 usage ive jsut split it 45% night and 55% days as I only have one years reading for the total electricity consumption.
I'm getting results of £821 for the year as the cheapest. I think this year out total was £780 at £65 a month and we managed fine.
Cant believe how much its gone up in 12 months.0 -
Best quote I am getting is SoEnergy at £72 a month and I've heard good things about them from this forum and only £5 exit fee per fuel.0

Bulb Energy gave me a quote of £71 a month and no exit fees' but I've not read up about them0
