used car query....

could anyone please help...my daughter just rang me in tears. they saw a used Peugeot car in a garage last week for £2,900 loved it and decided to buy it and put their car in part exchange.
This garage is 50 miles from their home...the keys the garage gave them to test drive the car were fine but after the drive wouldn't lock the car. So the garage agreed to send off for a new set, that was last Saturday and they arrived today.

First they are not Peugeot keys they are Citroen and when my daughter got to the garage to collect the car it was after work and dark, there was only one guy at the garage to greet her, she paid the balance with her debit card and he then left for home and told her to go when she was ready. She sat there for ten minutes waiting for the car to get warm and the mist to clear from the windows but had to go when she realised it wasn't getting warm.

She and her partner drove the 50 odd miles home freezing cold and when they stopped to put fuel in realised there was no lights at all on the passenger side....the indicators on that side are also out and there's a whistling noise coming from the front of the car that may be wind getting through the radiator grill.....
She loves this car but has only had it 3 hours and is now so upset and disappointed with the garage whose advert told her the car is in immaculate condition, granted the body work is pristine and only 50,000 on the clock.....does anyone know if these issues could be with the re-programming of the keys or should she just try to get her money back and look elsewhere, and does she have the right to do that?
I feel so sorry for her this was every penny they had and were hoping this car was sound.
Thanks in advance.

As Peugeot and Citroen are practically the same company don't worry about the keys.

Yes she can ask for a refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015

If it is just the front or back lights not working it may be a loose connector.

No heat in the car could be either low water level in the cooling system or a faulty thermostat. On there own minor issues but together don't give the impression the dealer has checked the car properly.

I would suggest contacting the dealer and explaining the issues and see what their response is. There maybe other issues which they have not found so getting her local garage to check it over maybe a good idea.
  • She simply needs to seek redress from the seller, no need for a complete refund at this stage...

did she get any warranty with the car, some places give a 3mth warranty in price

no lights could be a loose/bad earth but i think that would effect all lights, maybe bulbs or loose connection on that sides harness, probably an easy fix that will take more time to trace than fix.

no heat/demist i would suggest check to see if water in the radiator bottle if there is then make sure there are no air blocks does the temp gauge on the dash move? again probably a simple cheap fix just a matter of elimination.

wind noise, well wind does go through the front grill to help cool the rad, i'd be more inclined to check all the windows are at the top and 1 is not slightly open.

talk to the garage first see where it leads.

hope it turns out ok for her

A car, even a used car from a dealer can be rejected in the first 30 days for faults like this, after 30 days it gets a bit trickier.

Even with a warranty as you might be surprised to know that these warranties are practically worthless.
