Please bear with me as this is my first post. Has anybody had any dealings with a company called "Homesure Insurance". I noticed a new DD on my Halifax account yesterday(16/1/17) for £5, which I did not recognise. I contacted the Halifax who told me it had come in on the 3rd August and it was for this company Homesure. They gave me their telephone number and stopped the DD right away. I rang this company and got a gentleman who said it was for my Sky Box Maintenance and was taken out by me on the 16th December following a cold call. I do remember the call but know for certain that I never gave any bank details over the phone. The reason I am sure is I had decided to cancel my Sky subscription and knew I would not need that sort of cover. Also this has happened to me twice before, where DD's have been set up without my knowledge so I am very careful. I rang them back several times, on one occasion this same Gentleman told me The call was taped and proceeded to let me hear the first line which was me saying "Glan Aber" the name of our house, which is the way I answer the home phone. When I asked to hear the rest of the conversation he said he was not allowed to because of Data Protection Law. I asked if I could get a copy, he said I would have to write to the head office in Brighton and gave me the address. I am going to write but don't think I will get a response. It's not the £5 that is the problem, it's the fact they were able to set up a DD when I didn't give them any Bank details. Would welcome any comments.

The only problem with that is how did they find out your bank details?it's the fact they were able to set up a DD when I didn't give them any Bank details.
Your bank details are not in the public domain. So, how did they get them?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Stop giving out your bank details when people phone you up.
That will help significantly.0 -
Number one I never give my bank details out to anybody on the telephone zx81, when it happened before it was a company who had provided me with a service. When I cancelled that service, this company waited 18 months then activated it twice in different company names.
I have no idea how they got my bank detail dunstonh, I don't have a criminal mind so can't say how these type of people go about their activities. They certainly never got them from me.0 -
Use the dd guarantee to get your money back immediately into your bank account. If the merchant can prove to the Bank you did owe the money and they abided by the dd rules then it will be refunded to them at a later date
Make sure you have cancelled any dds remaining on your account that you didn't authorise0
