Staff application error

Hi all,
Hope someone will be able to advise on this - I applied for car finance recently, and due to the ineptitude of the new young salesman, my application was declined. Twice. Third time when he finally had all the information right, I was accepted.
However, I wasn't made aware that my application had actually been declined - was just told 'we need some more information for your application'. Upon checking my credit report since, it now looks like I repeatedly applied for the finance, and this doesn't look great on my file.
I've worked really hard to get my credit report in decent shape over recent years, so this is really frustrating.
Could I possibly (successfully) dispute these applications?
Cheers all,
Em

I personally wouldn't bother, it's only 2 applications with the same company which already/will mean nothing very soon.0

It states on experian that multiple searches by the same lender within 3 days of each other will not effect your score providing they can be identified as duplicates by the system. If you apply for credit the lender will also only take 1 search into consideration.0 -
You could have been rejected finance from the off.0

Yes you can. I did this once though the reasons were different. You need to contact the lender first and advise they have made three searches for one application and ask them to remove two of them. If they do not reply you can query this via the credit agency. Just one thing - are they all definitely full credit searches? You may have a full search and two ID checks or similar, which don't matter.
Future lenders will not know that three searches made on the same day are by the same potential lender. They will just know that three searches have been made so it is worth taking this further. Having said that, I would not get too worked up about it.0 -
Thanks for your advice and responses all.
I know we all agree on here that credit scores are quite academic but since this incident my scores have taken a nosedive.
On this occasion as they were from the same lender I'll leave it for now - it's not like I was going to different car dealers - instead, I'll spend 2017 on a financial detox to help shape my report back up. I've no requirement for any financial products this year aside from car insurance next month, but as I hope to be applying for a mortgage next year I'm perhaps a little overly conscious of whether I'll be accepted at the moment!0
