Hairdresser 'ruined' 'my hair, what should I do?

Hi,
I went to a reputable salon after researching to get balayage. I picked them as I seen pics of their work on Instagram and good reviews. There was a lot of faff with my appointment and they put it back two hours but insisted I would get out on time for an appointment I had. I also wanted to see the woman whose work was on Instagram but I was put with another.
I was a bit confused when she used foils for balayage and there was at least double the amount on the left side. No toner was used, just purple shampoo. I couldn't get it dried as I was in a hurry and they'd assured me I'd be finished within 2 and 1/2 hours so I left with wet hair.
When I dried it I noticed how overprocessed, lilac, uneven and patchy the blonde was. I was mortified at the jagged, unnatural look it had. My hair felt so damaged so I treated it a few days with treatments and let the purple wash out to see if it was any better. It wasn't, so I contacted the salon.
Now they assured me on Tuesday that they wanted to fix it, but I've asked to come back in at a convenient time with another stylist and they've not returned my messages. Should I wait until tomorrow and message again or call them? I'm trying to be calm but I am really annoyed at the state she's left my hair and how they're dragging their feet to sort it.

that's not good hun
may be worth popping in in person and showing them? I'm sure they won't like that in front of other customers and will hopefully be able to remedy it
Stay calm as you can and don't go in all guns blazing.
Quite often you're get much better treatment if you don't go in with threats and spouting rights you're not even sure of!
Good luck!0 -
I'd never heard of balayage but a quick search enlightened me. I hope you get it sorted, but if not there's always this option (I have something similar, but as a man it's probably less striking).0

I had a bad experience at a salon, and left without letting them remedy it or even having it dried. I was too upset. It was remedied elsewhere but my hair is now quite damaged (split ends etc). I wash it, let it dry naturally and apply conditioner to the strands (and leave it, I don't rinse) while its still damp - keep combing/brushing it so the strands don't stick together. This helps it look like there's no damage at all.
This remedy helps anyone with split ends.., neat conditioner applied to the ends.
I'm afraid once hair has been damaged with colour, you may be able to get the colour to what you want, but not a lot you can do about the damage to the hair strands except treat them and let it grow out.0 -
Is Balayage just a trendy word for highlights ?0

Thank you! I called them in the end and they've agreed to let another woman fix it next week. I've been quite calm so far but I'm DREADING going back inI'm a poor student so can't afford to go elsewhere just yet. I looked in the mirror last night and the highlights are still grey, like a murky grey. Ugh.
To those who asked, balayage is 'painted on' and more natural than foil highlights. It's more expensive because the hairdresser should have learnt the additional skills required.0 -
Did you ask why she was using foils instead of painting it on ? To be honest, i can't see what the difference is, my hairdresser uses foils on mine, she just doesnt put the full section of hair in the foil so mine look as though they're strands which are highlighted instead of a block. Will you be happy if they can rectify the colour ?0

I assumed she was doing it to separate the tint from the bleach, but she wasn't. There's quite a difference between painting it on and using foils, they're supposed to take extra training to do balayage not give people a bad half-head of highlights and then charge almost double for something not provided.
I'll be able to go out without a hat if they can fix it up to something more like I wantedShe's over-bleached a lot so I'm going to have to constantly tone these areas now. Plus the highlights have been taken too far up so I'll need to dye over them as well.

I really do feel for you. Such a shame as you must have been so Looking forward to having it done.
I had a hair disaster some years ago so contacted the salon like you have done and then went back in to see them. From what I remember now they arranged for me to go back there every week for a good few months to have a deep conditioning hair treatment each time for half and hour or so and also a wash and blow dry each time.
I obviously had to grow it out eventually but the conditioning hair treatments really did help with the frizz I was getting and made the overall condition of it much better than when I left the salon that day.
I would say that something like that should be the very least they should do for you.
I hope you manage to get it sorted soon. Sending you a big (((HUG)))

Thank you for such a lovely reply, Edwink :heartsmil I know, it's sod's law that I used to damage my hair so much from changing my colour drastically, now I've done everything in my power to do the right thing and it got mucked up anyway. Your experience has made me feel better about going tomorrow, I won't feel as much of a leper sat in the hairdressing chair now. I will post how I get on...
And sending lots of good vibes your wayxxx
