Party wall notice invalid?

I am panning to get a loft conversion done which will involve inserting a steel beam into a party wall between myself and neighbours. I have spoken to my neighbours about my plans since summer last year. I served a party wall notice but my neighbour wants to speak to the builders before giving consent and would be happy for us to forgo surveyors if he is pleased with the builder methods of working etc. The party wall notice response end this week and am trying to arrange for the builders to meet with my neighbours but they are dragging their heels so I doubt i'all get a meeting before the response expiry. Is there anything stopping me from just serving another notice again in the future to give another 14days? Also the notice I served does not have the commencement date of the works I propose so does that make it invalid? Or do I have not choice but to employ an agreed surveyor (providing my neighbour is happy with one surveyor) to draw up an award?

I wouldn't stress too much to be honest.
If they don't sign it will be put into dispute but once they sign it that wont matter.
It sounds like you have good neighbours who just want to make sure any works wont affect them or their property. As long as you have chosen a good builder and you/they have done their homework and know what they are doing, you will be fine.
Keep your neighbours in the loop throughout, so that any problems can be sorted before they become an issue.0
