Thomson package holiday - Changing destination and amount of people

Hi, I wonder if anybody can assist me?

I have a holiday booked with Thimson for myself, partner and her two Children and want to look at some options as we have had some unexpected costs over Christmas.

The holiday is in 130 days and in total was £2600. So far we have paid £493. The next amount is £500 in February then around £1500 in March.

Questions:
1. If I was to cancel the holiday now. How much of the payments made, would I lose? Would I be refunded any money at all?

2. Is it possible to amend the booking to just two people and select a new destination and dates? If we did select this option, could all the money we have paid so far be used towards the new holiday and are there any fees?

I called the helpline and was given incorrect information, guy said it would be an extra £200 per person to cancel now! I just went into a local branch, although she couldn't view my booking or assist as it's done online she said I wouldn't have to pay extra.

Thanks

    Did you book on line?

Here is the T&Cs for Thomson package holidays:

    http://www.thomson.co.uk/thomson/page/tandc/tandc.page?depDate=2009-05-01&accommInvSys=TPP&flightInvSys=TPP&lang=en

You might want to look at sections 11 & 12.

It looks like if you cancel 70 days or more before travel you lose your deposit.

Was the £493 the full deposit or a low deposit?
If it wasn't the full deposit, you are liable to pay the remainder of the deposit even if you cancel.
That might be what the £500 in Feb is for although a deposit of £993 on a holiday costing £2600 seems high.

Without seeing the paperwork you have, it's impossible to say.

I think you need to speak to Thomson to answer your question #2 in full.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I booked online.

I believe it may of been a low deposit as I paid £300 then and additional £193. When I try to cancel it states I must pay the deposit in full first.

    Total price = £2525.35

    Paid to date: £493.80

    Payments due: Feb 12th £500 - March 7th £1531.55

I have emailed but it's 72 hours reply. Thanks again
  • Thomson package hols short/mid haul full deposit is £200 per person. Longhaul is £250. If you cancel the deposit has to be paid in full.

If you amend your dates to later than booked for it is treated as a cancellation. If the new holiday is cheaper you do not get a refund. You are charged a per person amendment fee.

Of course its up to Thomson if they want to deviate from their T&Cs as a form of a gesture, but its Thomson, and they're not renown for their customer service. At least you booked direct as opposed to through a third party agent, who Thomson seem to love to hate.

Yes, it does sound like a low deposit.

The amount of low deposit depends on the destination and holiday type, varying between £75pp & £125pp with full deposit being £200pp or £250pp.
    Terms & Conditions
Please note, the remaining balance of your total deposit will be due 8 weeks after your booking has been made, or you will be required to pay the remainder of the total holiday cost, whichever date comes sooner depending on when you booked your holiday.
If you book using the low deposit scheme and then cancel your holiday, the remaining deposit balance will be due on cancellation. Deposits are not available on holidays departing within 12 weeks of departure date.

So probably between £800 and £1000 full deposit for 2 adults and 2 kids.

I really wouldn't try to cancel at this stage, better to see if it's possible to transfer the monies you've paid to another holiday.
If you cancel, you'll be liable for the remainder of the deposit and will lose your almost £1000.
