Thanks guys :) I'm starting to improve a bit now. Not back to being well but definitely on the mend... I actually slept last night for the first time in nearly 2 weeks.
The BIL came round yesterday to watch Brooklyn 99 and the Walking Dead. It was his turn to cook so he did the shopping and made us a lovely stir fry. It was really tasty but I especially enjoyed it because someone else had made it! I'm always happy when he cooks but last night I had no energy so I was even more grateful for it.
I had to go to the doctor yesterday for a note as I've been off work over a week. While I was out I stopped into the Coop so I wouldn't have to leave the house today - I'm glad I did as I really don't fancy dragging myself out of bed to go shopping! They had some great bargains with today and tomorrow's date (4 steaks down to £1.99, casserole beef less than half price, vegetables less than half price etc.) so I've got the slow cooker on and I'm making a beef stew and a steak and ale pie with a bottle of hobgoblin that's been hanging around. We don't drink it (I think it was dad's but he hasn't been able to drink alcohol for a while now) so we might as well put it to good use in a pie! There will be leftovers for tomorrow as well. I'm getting a lot better at using up ingredients and meal planning :)
I've sold a couple of small items on fleabay. Not much to write home about but it all adds up and clears space. I had an offer on a ring I was selling and the watcher messaged me about buying it after the listing ended, but has stopped replying to my messages so I guess they've lost interest or changed their mind. Disappointing but these things happen. I don't have much on there at the moment as I'm saving things for a car boot and for a stall at a charity event that my mum is putting together, but anything I don't think will sell well at either of those is going on fleabay.
DH is more than happy with the idea of trying to overpay £500 on the BTL mortgage and has updated our finance spreadsheet with a mortgage forecast / overpayment tab (thanks to themadvix for sending that through!). It really helps to see where we will be at the end of the 2 year fix it we keep it up. We will overpay a bit on the residential mortgage too but the BTL is the priority as it costs us more in interest, even though it's a smaller mortgage, and we will be in a better place if we decide to sell it or if we manage to pay it off and will then have loads of money to throw at the res mortgage.

Glad you're beginning to feel a bit better!

That sounds like the ideal way around to have it Ch4rley - the smaller mortgage with the higher interest, both in financial terms (i.e. there's less of a higher interest debt) and in satisfaction terms - you'll be able to see it really falling and clear it first :)

Well the stew and the pie were a hit and there were plenty of leftovers. DH is working away at the moment so an ideal chance to use up some of the freezer and store cupboard items that he's not keen on.
Other than all the medicine we've been purchasing recently, we haven't made any non essential purchases. DH has more money left over in his account on payday (partly due to his bonus) so he'll be putting that in the joint account to help with OPs and holiday fund :)
However, it's not all good. When we were on holiday in America visiting the other BIL, we were using his car and caught the bumper on a post in a parking garage. The BIL has had it fixed and we need to pay the bill. I'm expecting it to be about £1,000 :( labour is very expensive in California so although they were going too try and get a cheaper quote, I still think it will cost an arm and a leg. At least we have the money available to pay it.

That's great about the lacking of spending... ouch about the car repairs though :( especially as the $ is so strong against the £ right now.

Thanks Madvix. It sucks but it is our responsibility to sort it so we just have to suck it up and pay.... however, next time we go over we'll see if we can take out some insurance if we drive his car so we don't end up with another bill. It's just a shame we didn't know last time that they wouldn't be able to claim if anything happened (they have another car on their policy and if they claim it would cost them a fortune to insure it for many years). Live and learn, right?! :)

Today has been a spend day. Went out to Subway's tonight and I paid for DH and me, and the BIL. Still, not the most expensive or unhealthy so I don't feel too bad about it.
Had to buy some drywall anchors to refit the Dyson handheld vac charger to the utility room wall as I used normal plugs when I fit it and I ended up yanking it off the wall - oops! Definitely the best £6.99 I've spent - you can hang an elephant from it now!
Thanks to KittenKirst for reminding me about OnePoll. I forgot I had an account with them. I've been on to check and there was £6.80 in there so I've caught up with surveys and will keep an eye on it for more surveys.
Bit more bad news on the expenditure front. We had an ensuite fitted in the guest room a few months ago and it leaks water on the floor. The water doesn't drain away as quickly as it comes out so I'm going to have to get a plumber to take a look. I may have to end up paying for a waste pump to be fitted but if it means the ensuite is usable again then it'll be worth it. I'm hoping the damage isn't too bad!
Not much new to report but I will be trying to use up some of the freezer items as I seem to be spending a lot feeding the freezer with bargains but not using it so I'm spending more on food every week than is needed. Time to start having a use up! :)
