Im not unhappy with the house or where im at just struggling with the fact that we can afford much more (twice as much) and cant find much better.

In which case then it's simply dealing with prejudice: at some point when describing your property, the phrase "ex-local authority" will crop up, and all the negative connotations that entails. It will always be cheaper than a similar property built privately, and that applies when you buy it and when you sell it.

You're feeling the pain when considering selling to buy a non ex-council house, but unless that house will be the last you'll buy, you're likely to reap a greater reward when you sell the privately built house than when you sell the ex-council one.

Where I live if you want to move from a 4 bed semi to a 4 bed detached the price difference is at least £200,000. That is basically £200,000 to get a wall that is not attached to the house next door. There are detached houses at the end of our road and the road is not very long.

I could also be massively undervaluing my house. The house 2 doors down more or less exactly the same sold in 04 for £118500 and then again in Oct 07 for £148k. Theye since had a loft conversion. But obviously thats quite bad timing.

A terraced a few doors down (smaller garden) sold in 2015 for £115k, currently valued at £122k.

We bought ours for £104k in 2011 but listed at £125k and apparent value now is £116k.

All this from zoopla. Cant wait until it comes to sell and have to deal with peoples offers based on zoopla value!
