Balance Transfers

I have recently done a balance of transfer from one credit card to another, it was a part balance ie 98 % leaving about £60 to pay.
I am being told by the card company (old card) that paying one credit card from another is illegal ? I explained it was a legal balance transfer ! they then replied you can only transfer the full amount and then close the account to make it legal ?
is this true ??

When people post about 'stuff', I wish they would say which credit card, which bank etc. The relevant companies are not going to read your post, and it would help others to build a picture of who's behaving badly and who is not.

I'm a bit confused about what has actually happened here?

When you take out a BT card and set up a BT. You don't have to contact your old card to ask for their permission. The new card just pays off the old card balance, or part thereof.

Were you trying to get the 'old' credit card to transfer the debt to the 'new' card?

There is nothing illegal about transferring part of the balance. People do this every day.

as an example
card A balance of £1000
card B balance transfer £950
card A now has a balance of £50
card A company informs me that was ilegal and I should have transferred 100% of the balance and then closed card A afterwards
I think this is totally incorrect !
