Ebay Fraud

Options
Hey all, I wonder if anyone could assist!

Came home to a letter from Allied International Credit informing me they had been passed a debt of £38.79 from Ebay which they were now dealing with.

I was surprised as I thought my account was in order. I called eBay to find out that there was another Ebay account in my name, set up last year, which had been used to sell a treadmill, badly. Although my name and address were on the account, the email and phone number were different (appeared to have US Area code). I was passed to the fraud team, who agreed to "escalate the issue" and unlink the fraudulent account from my details.

I was obviously concerned about the outstanding debt and asked for written confirmation that Ebay agreed the debt was not mine to pay and asked them to inform the debt company.

She said this would be done but would not provide written confirmation, but a reference number which I could provide to Allied if they were to contact me again.

Now, I wasn't too convinced that would be sufficient, but after 3 hours of conversation I felt it was the best I was going to get.

My question is, what are my next steps? Do I wait in good faith that Ebay will come good, contact Allied that it's not my debt? Or should I go to them with the reference and say go back to Ebay?

thanks!

Perhaps leave it a few weeks then email them with the reference and ask them (the debt collection company) to confirm that you will not be receiving any more communication regarding this debt.

I wouldnt be too worried though - it would be up to the debt collectors to prove you owed the debt, not up to you to prove you didnt.
