I've not long come back from the hospital with a broken wrist. I feel embarrssed and a bit silly..
This morning I was putting on my shoes which are kept at the front door when a spider happened to be in my shoe which caused me to jump. I hit my head on the wall and fell awkwardly on my arm. I drove to work in pain, but I just ignored it thinking I was stupid for not checking my shoes first before putting them on.
By 10am my wrist was badly swollen and bruised and I felt faint so I went to HR and they took me to hospital. I honestly thought my wrist was sprained, but I was wrong it's actually broken
I can't drive my car and it's still in work HR have made arrangements for a member of staff to pick me up and drop me home in the company pool car until I'm well enough to drive.
I would love to know if anyone else has found spiders in their shoes so I know it's not just me.

It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

In parts of Australia it's the norm to shake your boots upside down every morning before putting them on. There are some extremely venomous spiders down under who like to take refuge in footwearIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

That's a bummer, Yvonne.
I'm not scared of spiders but it would probably have made me jump too.
Glad your employer is helping out.
I hope you can get organised at home too.0 -
I always knew that spiders could cause you serious injury! :rotfl:Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?

Strangely I always tap my shoes upside down before I put them on. I keep several pairs on a rack in the porch and I know there are spiders out there, and it's become a bit of a habit.
I sell antiques and vintage items and store them in an out building and I also shake out vases and bowls once I get them outside as they often have spiders lurking in them. I'm not phobic but I really don't like spiders.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Broken wrist because of a spider, I knew they were evil, but this confirms it!
I bet the evil arachnid did it on purpose.. never trust a creature with 4 times as many legs as you have!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
Ouch! I hope the wrist doesn't give you too much trouble and heals quickly!
I'm really phobic of big house spiders and did indeed find one in my shoe. Just as I had to leave for the school run and they were the only shoes that matched the trousers I was wearing. I didn't want to take my eye off it to go and change so I had to slowly inch the shoe out the door with a broom handle hoping it didn't leg it towards me/the house, then had to apologise to my child's teacher saying I was late as a big spider was in my shoe haha! (Thankfully she understood!)0 -
I've found spiders in my shoes before but, fortunately, they don't bother me at all.
I've also had numerous breaks to my arms that fall into the "embarrassing" category. I tripped over the front doorstep and went sprawling up the front path - sister stepped over my body and picked up the bourbon biscuit I had been carrying ... and ate it. At a party a friend threw me up in the air, but failed to catch me - resulted in multiple breaks, total dislocation of the elbow and numerous operations over a year .... the song playing was by Bucks Fizz! Now that's properly embarrassing!0 -
One of my colleagues phoned in sick, she had bent down to pick up her shoes and a spider was under one, she shot up really quickly and put her back out.0

Not spiders but I did find a toad in a shoe once. Dad used to keep an old pair of shoes outside the back door, and we all used to slip them on to go to the washing line a few feet away. On one occasion I'm pushing my foot into the shoe and it won't go in, I pick the shoe up and discover a toad sitting inside!
I did wake up one morning to discover bits of broken spider in my bed. I'd obviously been joined in bed by a spider overnight and had rolled over and squashed it.
