Connect iPhone to iPad ???

I have a good allowance of data on my iPhone. My iPad is wifi. If I were to be out with both devices and there was no wifi available, could I run a short cable from iPhone to iPad to use my data on iPad. Something tells me it can be done and it's called tethering. Maybe someone will tell me please?.

On the iPhone (mine is only a 5S, newer ones may be different!) Go to settings and down to 'Personal Hotspot' , select that and turn it on. If I remember correctly you might have to set a password - then on your iPad you should see the name of your phone in Settings, under WiFi.

Connect to your phone, no cables needed! Just don't forget that you are using your phone's data.

Note that not all phone plans allow tethered* use (you have to pay extra).

*Tethering, even without a wire, is the standard telecom service name for personal hostspot services (WiFi) or using a wired connection to offering internet access to, for example, your computer.

Apple incidentally do not support wired tethering between the iPhone and iPad - can be done on jailbroken devices.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but ignorance is lethal.

I will look at the t&c to see if is allowed and if so, will try it, thanks.

It's probably easier just to try it than attempt to find the relevant part of your mobile provider's T&Cs.

    Pretty much this

On the iPhone go into settings. If personal hotspot is there, then it's allowed. Simply activate it and connect the iPad to it using wifi.
