Hi,
I would like to ask a question please, not for me as I'm retired.
A friend has just started work as her children are now at school, she is working on a Monday a Wednesday and a Friday.
Her contracts states; That she will get 5 weeks holiday per year plus bank holidays all clear on that.
It also says; The company gives their employees bank holiday Tuesdays off as well, this is a day she doesn't work so will she be entitled to time off in lieu?
I suspect the answer is no, but using Google cannot find an answer to this

That must be the days the company have decided to have the holidays because if you do a Google search the spring and August ones don't show as Tuesday.
HR would be the obvious people to ask.0 -
She will just didn't want to make herself look silly.
Thank you anywayTreat other's how you like to be treated.

The question she should ask is, 'are the BH Tuesdays and the extra day at Christmas deducted from our leave entitlement or an extra day's holiday?' If they say 'deducted from your leave entitlement' then she's OK, because she doesn't work those days. If they say 'an extra day's holiday' then it's a little more complicated.
The way to work out whether she's getting the right basic amount of holidays is to divide 33 (25 + 8 BHs), divide it by 5, multiply it by 3.
If they are giving an extra day off on some BH Tuesdays to full-time staff, they don't have to give her the same pro rata, but if they ARE giving her the same pro rata then the sum above would be 36 / 5 x 3. And she gets a little more choice about when she takes her holiday days.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
