What to do with spare earth cables in ceiling?

Hi all - I've just purchased a double-insulated light fitting and would be very appreciative of some installation advice! As you might tell, I'm by no means an expert with circuitry!

Coming out of the ceiling we have the following;

1 x red (live)
2 x black (neutral)
2 x green/yellow (earth)

Coming from the new light fitting we have the following;

1 x brown (live)
1 x blue (neutral)
0 x earth connector

I have a bunch of Wago connectors so my intention is to put the 2 live cables into one and the 3 neutral cables into another. I'm reasonably confident this is correct (please tell me if not!) but what should I do with the 2 spare earth cables I no longer have any need for?

    the earth is an in and out loop , ceiling rose 1 earth comes in and then 2nd earth wire loops on to ceiling rose 2 and so on

    if they are not joined you are removing the earth that may be needed further along the chain

  • Cheers Browntoa - so both earth cables should go into another Wago connector (or a single gang piece of terminal block)?

    Your first mistake is to assume that both black wires are neutral. Presumably this light is connected to a switch, so unless all the terminations are in a junction box in a ceiling with just a single switched live/neutral/earth coming out of the ceiling (which from your description there is not), then one of them is probably the switched live. It should have red or brown sleeving over it to indicate that it is live, but they often do not.

    Was there a ceiling rose there before?

    If you're not confident dealing with electrics then its probably better to get a professional in.

    I already wrote a reply. Evidently it doesn't seem to have gone onto the server.

    What I said was that circuit protective conductors (cpcs) must be terminated at all accessories regardless of whether they are Class I or Class II. In the case of Class II accessories the cpc must be terminated in the accessory.

    I also stated that without appropriate test instruments and the knowledge of how to use them one would be unable to verify that the cpc was in fact connected to the means of Earthing and that the installation was safe.
