Also agree with sheramber's post. I've known lots of business people who've gone down this route because they were young and stupid once upon a time. The American authorities appear to come down heavier on fraud than minor assault convictions, so I honestly don't know where your particular record would fit into that, but I'd be hopeful.0

A visit to the USA is simply not worth the hassle and expense of getting a visa, not to mention all the stress involved. Furthermore, declaring your conviction at this stage could mean that other records might come to know about your past, with unforseeable consequences. There are many countries that are more attractive, and offer far better value for money to most visitors. Why not post details of what you want from a holiday, and probably we will be able to suggest other places that you would enjoy more than the USA?0

Outside of the EU he will be in a similar situation in a lot of countries.
To take the 'main' destinations Canada\Australia\NZ he fails in visa free travel.0 -

How do you know what the OP considers to be worth the potential hassle and expense?
And who says it has to be stressful? Know the process, know the potential outcomes and risks, don't book anything until there's some certainty around the outcome.
Some people might stress about this, others won't. You've no idea how the OP handles stress.0 -

Or Canada. Transited through calagry a couple of weeks ago. Really smooth pre clearance into the states. The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
TBH a trip to the London embassy really isn't that much hassle for what could be 10 years entry, couple it with a night in London shopping on Oxford street or sightseeing, know the process take it in your stride. I know i did it, 10 times easier than expected. Cost about £300 all in for a 10 year B2 visa. Having it will make your travels so less stressful.0

He would likely fail ETA due to the conviction. I do not know if that conviction would fall into the 'deemed rehabilitated' category.
As a point, getting refused entry especially with your son in tow, would, I imagine, not be a good experience.
My main point still stands, get a PNC check done and go from there. The OP then has the decision to make what to do. Whether ESTA still exists next week is also down to the whims of Trump.0
