Closing credit cards

Options
Hi, I have two credit cards with Nil balance. I got them for the 0% interest a number of years ago and used them to pay off my debts which I did 2 years ago but they are still open. Do I close them? I am retired now and am only holding onto them "just in case" in need extra monies. The point is that obviously the 0% interest term has passed and that I would have to pay 19% or so if I now used them. If I closed them would I at 66 yrs be able to get another credit card if I needed to? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would definitely keep them. Awkward providers such as car hire companies and hotels make life difficult for anyone that hasn't got a credit card. Also, in retirement it might not be easy to get new cards. Just keep them and put a small transaction on each one every six months or so.
  • Thanks for the prompt reply, I will check the link you have provided. :)

    Thanks Gingerbob, that's what I thought. :)

Close them, then when they shown as settled on your
favorite credit reporting site....go for new ones.

retired now and get better offers for new or repeat deals than
    when I was working.
They do not know how many pensions £££'s

    you have :)
