if you are not being asked for a unlock code , the phone must be unlocked?
i cannot make calls on it. help please.
perhaps you have a faulty sim card , or an unregistered sim car (ring to register) or indeed you have to go to settings and search for available signals and choose?0 -
i have tried several sims. apparently i need to unlock the phone before i even activate the SIM. i have nevertheless just requested activation.QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0

thought bt was ee , I suspect the phone is not unlocked , you just have a have a valid BT sim
have you actually tried the sim in another phone
and the other sims you are trying are they ones that are in use , not old or unregistered ones
last thing
with new sim installed are you getting a BT logo at top of screan?0 -

Yep, BT runs on EE so it doesn't even need unlocking. The OP needs to contact BT to see if it's the sim at fault.0 -
there is no BT logo just a message that says emergency only. i called BT and they said even though the SIM has been activated i need to keep the new SIM in the phone for 24 hours and it may start up then so will try that. so if BT is part of EE i hope they do not charge me the £8.99 fee for unlocking.... thanks all.QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0

BT now own EE, and yes , you asked for an unlock code , so were given one and will be charged
my advice would be to go and collect a sim card from a non BT operator , for example vodohone an insert that and use the unlock code ,
I have no idea if there is a time limitation on the unlock , but you might loose the piece of paper and in 6-12mths time have to pay for another code0 -
OK problem solved, thank you to all who responded. I actually got and activated 2 SIMs from BT. I continued to have the same problem but it was resolved when i inserted the other SIM! Was not asked for the unlock code. I am fuming about ordering the code though. Had no idea I would not need it, duh....QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0
