Financial Associations

I recently applied to the Nationwide BS for a £10,000 loan for home improvements, which was turned down due to a financial association I have with my partner through a Santander joint account we use to cover household bills. Fair enough, pending further consideration maybe - but the detail of the situation has frustrated me SO much, and I really feel there should be a stand against such dictatorship:
I own the apartment, with a mortgage from Nationwide, on which I have never defaulted and regularly over-pay. My partner has no financial involvement with, or responsibility for the property. I have banked with Nationwide for 30 years and have a credit rating of 999. At the time of the application I had just paid off another loan from Santander, 3 years early.
The loan application was submitted in my name only, and would be repaid by me alone, from my personal Nationwide bank account. At no point would my partner be financially involved in this loan agreement.
When it was turned down I wrote to Nationwide explaining why my partner's credit rating was lower - due to debt built up by her ex-husband on her credit card accounts, and the measures she had since put in place to correct her credit rating, which has already increased to 700+
However, the application was still turned down.
I know that I could apply elsewhere, although not without risking my rating, however it is the principle of this situation which has angered me so. Does anyone else feel the same, and know of any action that could be taken?

Apart from disassociating, no action can be taken.
If you want to try to avoid your partner's circumstances being taken into account, you could look at the three CRAs and see if there is one where the association does not appear. and apply accordingly.
However, remember also that your 999 and her 700+ mean nothing. You could just as easily be a recent bankrupt with a 999 score.0 -
Not much you can do about the association other than dissacociating. Frustrating I know.
I know they have given you a reason however if you decide to apply elsewhere bear in mind that if you have only just paid off your santader loan it could take 4-6 weeks to show as settled on your report.0 -
You can appeal the banks decison if you wish.
