Mastercard chargeback regulations

Options
I used my mastercard to pay for a flight between Rio de Janeiro in brazil and Buenos Aires in Argentina. They lost my baggage.

I have been seeking compensation, but it is difficult dealing with Brazilian airline and outside the UK

I requested a chargeback for breach of contract, but my card provided refused saying "no chargeback rights for lost baggage"

is that correct??

Yes, you paid for a flight, you received your flight, the credit card company has nothing to do with lost luggage, that's when you claim on your travel insurance or from the airline - it'll probably arrive after a week or so

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

The majority of countries (including Brazil) are signatories to the Montreal Convention which governs standardised compensation for delayed or lost luggage, so if you haven't already then it'll probably be worth familiarising yourself with its provisions and being clear that it's the basis of your claim when claiming from the airline, who are indeed responsible.

As above, travel insurance may be a better first port of call but a card chargeback doesn't sound a particularly likely avenue to pursue....

Baggage is lost all the time on flights, it's 7.3 lost bags per 1000 passengers, it often turns up but doesn't always. Hence you can claim from the airline or on travel insurance (which is what it's there for) for lost baggage. Why faff around trying to get S75 which the firm will fight for ages when there are proper channels to go down?

People seem obsessed with trying to use S75 for everything when there are usually better options available.

You wouldn't think so but you won't get anywhere taking anyone to court.

Airlines have stupidly low limited liability under the montreal convention so it's cheaper for them to just lose bags than it is to invest in order to not lost/break/steal them.

As the Credit card company is jointly ans severally liable they have no more liability than the airline so nothing to be done.
