Sealed pot challenge number 6480 -
Still working on stock reducing so must keep it up, working well so far and have spent much less of my budget than I would have usually
Here goes 8 days worth of main meals for me and DP, some days kids will have something else but have a couple of things in as alternatives, lunches will be sandwiches, things on toast, filled pitas, soups and whatever else I can find. No particular day order yet as don't know what we'll be doing next week. I've done 8 because my grocery budget finishes next Sunday and I want to see what I need until then.
Chicken topped with BBQ sauce, cheese and bacon served with salad and garlic bread
Bolognese (may turn into lasagne if I have enough time)
Beef dinner (left over brisket in freezer)
Sirloin steaks with chips, onion rings, mushrooms and peas
Pork/Veg sausages with beans, eggs and chips
Pancakes
Chicken kebabs (peppers and onions) with pita breads
Turkey with mash, veg and gravy
Will go and do shopping list from there, hopefully won't need much as I have in what I need for the main part of each meal. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -

Hi there folks,
You all put me to shame, I dont wonder I can get our food bill down. Mind you more by luck than good management I have not bought as much this month. We are moving house in 6 weeks and I am trying to use up all that is in the cupboards/ freezer ect.
I have just discovered this board and having read how wonderfull you all are at saving money and living on less I am determined to try out lots of the tips and take up the grocery challanges when we move. Will start with the Novemebr one.
The major problem I have is my husband things if you dont have meat and 2 veg everyday you will die in the night. I would be quiet happy to have a Veggy meal some nights but not him. As he does a lot of the cooking or should I say starts most of the meals (iwork he doesnt) for me to finish off it is hard to control the amount of food he cooks and he is not very good at using up left overs. If I know something is in the fridge from the night before I usually say I will have that to use it up but this can mean I have the same thing for days. Like today it is Roast Chicken, cauli, carrotts parsnips, potatoes. He wants roast chicken but then doesnt want cooked chicken left overs. As I am not at home to start the meal it is hard to get him to use the left over chicken in a recipe as he cant be bothered to follow one. He just wants something you put in the over.
Any idears. Also were do you all get your great sounding meal idears from.
Sorry if I come across as negative but I do find it hard to change hubby at nearly 70 he is very set in his ways.
I deal with the shoppping and the money and he just expects it to go round, I have to say he doesnt realy want to know about that side of things. :j
:j is because I have found this board and all you knowledgable people,is because I am not sure how to move things forward.

welcome sarah h:D
you will enjoy it here-there are recipe indexes which you can search if you just put in one of the ingedients you have, or you can start a post and ask for ideas on whatever you need to use up, and soon some very clever people on this board will jump in with all sorts of suggestions:jOf all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.....0 -
Hi there cannylass,
Dont worry now I have found you you will not get rid of me. Like I said things are a bit mad at the moment because we are in the process of moving house. I have already told my husband I dont want to have to move frozen food, so when he is meal planning it has to be something out of the freezer and then what ever he wants to go with it. We have in the past bought meat in bulk and had 2 chest freezers, this has led to me finding things in the bottom that havent been used up in time. I am trying to convince by dear husband that when we move we will only have room for one freezer in the hope that this will not happen and the turn around of things will be faster. We will also have a good sized garden and I am hoping we can grow some of our own veg. This should also help the budget. I have told dearest that moving will nearly bankrupt us(not quite but its the only way to get him to cut back) so I am just going to keep telling him we need to budget and cut back. Hopefully if we do it for a few months he will get use to it and go along with the idear.0 -
am really trying with the diet so loads of veg and small portions for me
