Switching two bank accounts to one joint

Is it possible to switch two separate bank accounts into one joint account?
We are now with two different banks - Santander and Barclays. We want to switch to joint account in Santander and make it as smooth as possible (direct debits and standing orders on both accounts).
What is the best way to do it?
Thank you,

Open a joint account, ask the new bank to switch the old bank accounts.

Convert the Santander sole to a joint, and the one who has the Barclays account then initiates a switch to Santander.0 -
Thank you, it sounds like a very simple thing.
I didn't know we can open joint account first and then ask them to switch old accounts. I somehow though it has to be done as one complicated process.
I appreciate your quick response.0
