Am I being made to work without being paid?

I don't know anything about the company.0

It is not about being in the dark it is about being in the dark in secluded area where there is basically nothing. I would prefer to work in the city centre where I feel safer. My safety matters more to me than work.0

Yh I mean the woman said something like "It would be better to get you to do it rather than them getting a temp in" which made me think hang on, if I don't do this then they'll get a temp in which means they'll be paid right? I am already doing work experience in the city centre which I wouldn't mind if I did have to work in the dark it is just being in an area where there is nothing and it being dark.0

Yh it is just I think it would be unfair that I would have to work when if they got a temp in surely they'd be paid for doing exactly what I'd be doing as the woman "It'd be better for me to do the job so the company doesn't have to get a temp in."0

Lol no it's not but being very short (looking like a kid) and just being dark alone where there are no people around that makes me scared.0

"This doesn't mean that work experience placements can't be offered though, as essentially they involve shadowing staff and being shown skills."
So work experience is basically shadowing? I am being offered a work experience for one week they need someone desperately and if I don't do it then they will get a temp in. I have a feeling that I am covering for a staff who is perhaps on holiday for a week or something. I doubt what I would be doing is shadowing otherwise why would they be desperate to have someone in and for a week just to shadow someone? I am going to talk to the Citizens Advice Bureau because if this is the case then I would be working for free when actually I am covering someone and I should be paid.0 -
Thank you for those who actually answered my question. It does seem quite unfair that there is a job that needs to get done urgently but the company can have someone do it for free or they could pay someone to do it.0
