HELP !!!! My fridge freezer first started to ice up then started making a clicking noise , and then died on me!! I have been told it is the relay so in my none experience i had the back of the fridge freezer off and have managed to pull out the relay. So i have a RFAA52 Fridge freezer , the relay code A1CFK V230 for the life of me i cannot find this part!! phoned hotpoint got an unhelpful lady saying just buy the whole compresser!! which no way i will be able to fit! I have seen the relay parts on the web , u tube etc but not this part, anyone have any ideas.

Try telephoning MasterPart to see if they stock it? (0330 880 7010)

(unfortunately their website isn't very informative - little more than a few static pages)

I suspect your going to find the problem is not the relay, relays do make clicking noises and this indicates it's at least trying to work.

People do the same thing with cars, car won't start, but they can hear the relay/solenoid, so they automatically blame that.

Compressor relay? You will need to test the relay. But beware its probably mains voltage (V230) = 230Volts? So dont electrocute yourself.

There are alternate parts you can fit but i am wary on your skills to diagnose and replace. You could easily kill yourself.

(says he who inbetween typing these paragraphs is poking a 4000v ioniser with a pair of pliers) shhh. Dont tell the H&S brigade.

We had the very same model of Hotpoint fridge freezer (just over 2 years old) from Comet with the same symptoms - 2 years ago and called out the service team who came out (at £100 +) defrosted it with a spray - and told us that a circuit board needed replacing - they then took almost a month to source one and fitted it - it lasted another 3 months before going again...
We dumped the hotpoint and bought a BEKO from AO.com
Never again will we be tempted to buy a Hotpoint "anything" !!

    Hi

    A simplistic logic...

The thermostat switches the compressor motor start relay, the relay supplies power to the compressor motor.

So a clicking relay suggests the relay is being switched by the thermostat, and that the motor may be the fault.
