Sainsburys Energy - Taken over wrong supply
Basically, this is a complete mess.
I moved into a new build property in July 2015 and the default supplier was British Gas. We contacted British Gas, had an account set up and then moved to Sainsburys Energy on a 12 month dual fuel deal.
That ended in August 2016 so we moved to Greenstar which is when it all went to pot. It was brought to light that our gas meter had been incorrectly entered into the National Database (by British Gas) and therefore Sainsburys had taken over the wrong supply. These last few months, Sainsburys have been trying to rectify the issue and I've been receiving debt collection letters from British Gas for a bill of £570!
A few days ago, I received a cheque from Sainsburys refunding all the money I paid to them for gas (£300) and have been told that it's up to me to pay the £570 bill with that!
I have been on the phone constantly to both Sainsburys and British Gas but I'm getting nowhere. I entered a 12 month contract with Sainsburys so surely they cannot just turn around at the end of the contract, refund me and wash their hands clean of this?!

Follow the supplier's complaint procedure, explaining what you think the supplier has done incorrectly, and what ideally you would like them to do to correct the situation
You do realise that Sainsburys Energy is simply a white label British Gas supply don't you?0 -
Thanks for your response.
Yes I do know which is why it's so confusing as they should be able to sort it.
It's just being passed from pillar to post.0
