After looking at wood, granite, the plastic stuff and quartz - we decided on quartz - all the rest have either durability issues or are absorbent or both.
Also have to be carefull on them re hot dishes, not so with quartz0 -
Thank you. I think Ive decided on quartz now. I've just realised that diy kitchens actually sell some of the Silestone range, just need to decide what colour units and then choose a worktop to compliment it now- I'm not good with decisions. It's been really useful hearing other people's experiences. After looking at wood, granite, the plastic stuff and quartz - we decided on quartz - all the rest have either durability issues or are absorbent or both.

Just for future reference and in case anyone is interested in how much this stuff costs.. http://www.arcane-industries.co.uk/p448_r2701-arcascreed-beton-cire-exterior-floors-walls-stairs.html
Works out at between £45 and £37 per m² depending on pack size. I'm almost tempted to go with black and mix some pearlescent pigments in to the top coat.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
