How can it be this hard to switch away from British Gas?!

I'm so frustrated with British Gas. I started the process of switching from them to iSupply Energy at the beginning of December. I've since called BG numerous times because they keep sending through bills or statements that I need to query. Every single time I speak to someone I get told something different. First it was that they wouldn't take the normal direct debit at the start of January (Jan 1st was the date I had to give my meter readings to iSupply to finalise the switch) & that instead they would just take out however much I owed on my final bill. Fair enough. Except they did take the usual direct debit.

When I called to query, they apologised, told me I'd get back that money plus my account was in £71 credit, which they would also return by the following Friday.

The following Friday came, no money appeared so called again only to be told that actually I was in debit by £12 because iSupply had only just sent them the electricity reading (although gas apparently was sent at some earlier point in the year).

After complaining about how rubbish their customer service was, I paid the £12 & verbally confirmed with the person that my account was all settled up, closed & that would be it. She confirmed that was indeed the case.

However today, just 4 days after I got her confirmation that it was all sorted, I've had another bill from them! This time for £35 although it doesn't say what that charge is for. I'm loathe to call them as I'll have to go through the whole rigmarole again & I'm sick of paying out. I've settled up gas & electricity - what else could they be charging for? I started trying to leave them a month & a half ago - how is it possible that they still haven't managed to give me a final statement?

Has anyone else experienced this, or do you have any advice about how to handle it? I'm going to call iSupply today & confirm the dates that they told British gas the meter readings but it's starting to get quite stressful to think that BG can just keep charging me.

Thanks very much :)
