Accidental landlord and new tax rules
Comments
-
I would like to point a few things out here.
At no point did I suggest I was trying to get out of paying the tax that I should be paying.
At no point did I suggest I wanted to shirk my responsibilities as a landlord, towards my tenants or towards the law.
At no point did I suggest that I didn't know what I was doing.
All I was asking for, was some information on a change to the tax rules I have had difficulty finding information about, and in order to specify the information I needed and the decisions I have to make, I gave a little information on my circumstances,
I have to say, you people are breaking the Forum rules all over the place. If you can't remember them, look them up.

LisaV, I'm afraid you have to take the rough with the smooth when posting on a public forum. A lot of what has been posted is just arguing over semantics and not directed at you per se.
It may be worth you posting on the tax board for specific tax advice.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. #2 covered all she needs to know which is why all posts since then have not mentioned tax or remained "on topic" since all that would be is (pointless?) repetition. I admit it was unnecessary of me to emphasise the accidental word, but I happen to totally agree with Adrian C - no landlord arrives there by accident, they arrive there by deliberate choice (and before westernpromise kicks off again, yes, including choice not to lose money)It may be worth you posting on the tax board for specific tax advice.
every(?) accountant has referenced the new rules in various levels of detail on their website. Whilst ours is rather superficial, the conference we attended where they were explained was anything but!

And as pointed out, all you needed was in post 2. Concise and accurate information right there.
So get off your hobby horse and stop bleating about forum rules. The fact you even think for some bizarre reason the rules may not apply to you based on unilateral decisions you've made is telling.0 -
I think this thread has run its course. No one is offering any further advice on tax and discussion on the definition of an accidental landlord would be better placed on the Discussion Time Board.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
