redundancy and disabled child

Hello, all.
Just heard I have a high chance of being made redundant (full time teaching assistant job).
Before I started my job, as a single mother of 2 with one disabled child, I did not have to sign on weekly or look for work but was able to claim carer's allowance. I did this for a year or 2 while my child was having a tough time at school - he then went into specialist education.
Now, I'd like another job but, if the worst came to the worst - is this still the case? So could I go from redundancy into claiming benefits without a huge problem?
I would get 2 weeks pay as my redundancy so about £350.
Thank you.

as long as your child still receives mid/high rate DLA care and you provide a minimum of 35 hours a week additional care ( than for a abled bodied child of the same age) then its a straightforward carers allowance/income support claim0

Thanks, Nannytone.
He gets lower rate mobility and middle rate care.
So this is the same non-signing on, carer's allowance that I used to claim?

you wont have to sign on.
you may be called from time to time to attend work focused interviews, but there is no pressure to get you back to work, jusst a catch up to keep you in the loop for when you're ready to return to the workplace0
