structural engineer call out charge

We are looking to get a door knocked through a load bearing wall and the builder has advised it will cost £260 to get an engineer out for the site visit, calculation and drawings before he can even start planning the knock through (which he says will cost around £1500 without the steel or door/ frame)
Does this sound reasonable/ expensive? He says that it is high as the calculation side of it is quite a specialist thing.

it sounds about 2-3x more expensive than it really should be depending on where you live and how posh car you got outside your house
