I have bought things from the shopping channel QVC previously on quite a few occasions, however the last time I purchased 2 pairs of birkenstocks on easy pay, the first payment went through fine, then I received a phone call tellingme that my 2nd payment had been declined, checked that they had the right card details and they said they would try to get payment again, I was really miffed by this and contacted my bank about it and they confirmed that there was nothing wrong with my account and said that the problem was with QVC's end, ( I already knew that I had plenty of money in the account, and i had been using it to pay for other things without any problems) anyway got intouch with QVC again after receiving a letter from them saying that payment had been declined, by this time I was getting livid with them, has I was not encountering problems anywhere else, they again re took my card details and low and behold the payment was authorised, no apologies from QVC. On Thursday I placed another order via QVC again on easy pay, and on Friday evening received a phone call from them saying that my payment had not been authorised, I was fuming and told them to cancel the order altogher. I don't know what is going on, I called my bank yet again and they informed me that there was nothing wrong with my account, I had also bought goods from Ideal World the same day without any problems, and used my card in town, so I don't know what is going on. Has anyone else had problems with QVC? I just don't understand why I am only having problems when I want to buy of QVC, I am beginning to think that they don't want my custom, or they have staff that are not putting in the correct card details, either way it is making me look really bad.
Any comments or advise greatly received

Its probably the clearing house they use, I had this problem earlier this year with M&S no problems with other companies at the time just them0

Thank you poppycat, but how did you get around the situation?, and sorry if this is stupid, but what is a clearing company?

I am no expert but apparently business use a3rd party to check whether the card is valid or not from the bank, on some rare occasions the data is inaccurate or out of date. I ended up having to pay via credit card from M&S than from debit card even though at the time my bank account was showing enough funds.0

I can see why you're annoyed, but why is it making you look really bad? To whom?0

Companies that use credit cards have "merchants" that process the cards for them. One example of this in the UK is Barclaycard Business.
When a company process a card, they use the same terminals that you see in stores and process it as a "Customer Not Present" transaction, it dials into the provider who will then authorise, decline or refer the card. If it is referred, the merchant will usually contact the customers bank, run a few checks and give a yay or nay to the transaction.
If it is declined..... thats it. They cant tell you the reason due to Data Protection in some cases and purely that they don't know because it isn't their customer in other cases.
Cards can and do sometimes get declined one second and then authorise the next. They're annoying things really0
