A friend has purchased a set of Sennheiser RS195 remote headphones. He wishes to listen to TV at a volume setting suited to his hearing, whilst his family are listening to the TV at a lower volume.

This model has a digital(optical) input and input from the headphone jack.

However the digital(optical) output on the TV is connected to a sound system. Whilst he can use the headphone jack the results do not do justice to the sophisticated(and expensive)headphones.

So my question is can two 'appliances'(headphones and sound system) use the digital output from the TV simultaneously and can a '2 to 1' adapter be purchased?

The digital optical cable is called a TOSLINK, and yes you can buy splitters:

Why not take the Tape Out from the sound system, which will be at fixed level, and feed that to a Headphone Amplifier?
