Booked an apartment direct in Portugal. Was brilliant as because we were dealing direct, we paid on arrival which saved us bank fees

We used TripAdvisor for a 3 bed villa in Fuerteventura over the New Year for 4 of us and it was brilliant with no problems. Spurred on by this we are renting a penthouse condo with private rooftop terrace and pool in PDC Mexico for the summer. Far cheaper than hotels and so much more space.

We have done it numerous times for parties of 2 to 14, both at home and abroad.

We've never had a problem with the accommodation.

    Hi

I have a gite in France - most of the people who book our gite pay by direct bank transfer or cheque - never had any issues.

I don't use Trip Advisor as they are more expensive than booking direct - but of course you are getting more protection.

For example if a week of mine is £750 paying direct, you will be paying about £840ish via Trip Advisor.

Booked many times for villas in Florida, only once was it a bit dodgy, oddly from same woman we booked from year before....when we got there villa was in a bit of disrepair, no pool heating, no cable...owner difficult to get hold up so we made best of it. When we got back turns out villa was in process of being repossessed ! would still do it again though.
