Vw golf mk6 used car purchase- faults galore!

Options
Please bear with me as it is quite a long post...your help would be really appreciated.

I purchased a vw golf mk6 2.0tdi direct from a vw dealer with a mileage of 44000 on 11/12/16.

The car had a dash trim noise when driving and windscreen washer which comes straight back out when put in which was noted 3days after I took hold of the car and I reported straight away. I am still waiting for a repair which I wasn't that concerned about until....

A major fault which developed on 14/01/17 where gearbox oil was leaking under the car and causing issues such as clutch noise and a burning smell. the car is currently back with the dealer I purchased from via VW assistance.

I have only done 350miles on the car and have had the car 34 days. Where do I stand and looking at VW warranty, they don't cover clutch issues. I haven't heard back from them yet but how do I go about this?

  • I think you're supposed to give them a chance to repair/fix the car and if things still aren't right, you should be able to reject the car on the basis of SOGA. However, someone more knowledgeable will be able to shed some more light.

New cars come with two years' manufacturer's warranty and the third year is covered by the dealer. If your car is older than this, then it comes down to the warranty provided by the dealer and what they will or will not cover. Some things are considered "consumables" eg tyres, clutch, brakes and will not be covered.

my idea is that the car was not sold in a satisfactory condition especially if it has had so many faults in 34days of me having the car and only doing 350miles.

I bought it from vw direct via their approved used car scheme.

As it's been over 30 days they will be within their rights to repair/replace should they so wish. However they will only be allowed a single chance to fix, after this you may be able to reject the vehicle.

A serious oil leak from the gearbox that is not repaired satisfactorily would potentially be grounds to reject. Trim coming loose and a dashboard rattle should be sorted as well but are unlikely to justify rejection.
Bare in mind that the repair to your car should include any additional damage caused by the leak.
