PPI: Benefits or Premium

My mother has a Littlewoods credit card from Barclay's which she suspected was subject to PPI.
We called Barclay's and they found a hidden fee for an insurance package at 1.8% which has been applied to the account from 2003 to present
The agent on phone said we could either claim the benefits or the premium. Iam unsure what the difference is and which would typically result in the highest compensation layout.
Thanks in advance

How was it hidden?
If the PPI is paid it increases the balance outstanding. It appear as a transaction. If it was hidden, the balance couldn't increase. The agent on phone said we could either claim the benefits or the premium. Claim is what you do on an insurance policy when you suffer an event to which the insurance covers you for. It sounds like the agent answered as if you were claiming on the policy.
What you seem to want to do is complain about the policy.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Barclays wouldn't have found any "hidden" fee. If your mother is now unaware of this, it's simply that she's forgotten agreeing to it in 2003.We called Barclay's and they found a hidden fee for an insurance package at 1.8% which has been applied to the account from 2003 to present
You (and the agent) seem to be at cross purposes. The agent was advising what to do if you want to claim on the insurance. The agent on phone said we could either claim the benefits or the premium. Iam unsure what the difference is and which would typically result in the highest compensation layout.
You appear to want to complain that it was somehow mis-sold to your Mother.0
