Use the immersion heater on night rate as intended-a properly insulated tank will retain the heat all day, and in winter any heat 'lost' serves to warm the property.
Remember that 1 hour on day rate gets you maybe 3.5 hours on night rate for the same cost.
As others have stated, gas CH will not only be the cheapest option, but will add value to the property more effectively than anything else you can do.So £800 for mains connection is a very good investment.

  • Unfortunatley we read the Rointe website and believed their write up on what a wonderful product they were selling. We purchased a full system for a newly renovated house we wanted to resell, we had a new EPC carried out only for it to be at a lower level than the old broken Parkray system, we queried this with the EPC engineer who ran the checks again and confirmed it was correct and the best way of increasing the EPC was to rip out the Rointe system and fit either Storage heaters or have an oil fired system fitted. There is no gas available except LPG. So we had just spent thousands of pounds having this Rointe system to be fitted to be told it was classified as Panel heaters on the EPC. Rointe do not advertise that their systems are no better than a Panel heater or it can reduce the EPC, I think they should be made to make the General public aware of this so other people know what they are buying. Hope this help with anyone thinking of purchasing their heating products.

Rointe heaters are filled with a fluid and so are like oil filled radiators. Fischer are filled with clay or some suck and are similar. Neither are storage heaters (although Fischer frequently call them storeage heaters)

The only minor advantage that they've got over a £20-£50 Argos oil filled radiator is that they've got built in electronic timers/thermostats.

The cost for producing 1kwh from one of these is exactly the same as it costs from a panel heater, oil fillled radiator or fan heater which all have to be used on peak rate electricity.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
