what to have with fishcakes?

I'm a bit stuck! We are having fishcakes for dinner tomorrow tonight (homemade, just potato, scallions, smoked mackerel and horseradish. There was supposed to be dill in there too but I forgot to add it, and I've made them now!)

I'm just at a loss to what to have them with. I'd be happy with salad & sweet chilli sauce but OH would probably prefer something more substantial. Can't really do spuds as they are in the fishcakes, shall I just have carrots & greens? I don't think we really need more carbs...

How about some wilted spinach? Lidl have bags for 59p at the moment. Perhaps some dill sauce (made in the same way as parsley sauce) as I assume you have some dill looking for a home!

Fishcakes, boiled new/baby potatoes, asparagus and hollandaise sauce (i would still have pots even though they're in the cakes)

  • I had a salmon fishcake from my freezer last week with a 'small' jacket spud and half a tin of left over baked beans filled me up for very little cost as I am eating down my freezer. the best bit was the fish cake was half a pack of Y/S ones that I got for a quid ,the ones with a melted bit in the middle so my dinner came to aroud 75p

    Baked beans, salad or peas.
Have a desert if you feel you need something more, that could be healthy like Greek yogurt and berries.
  • I love broccoli & cauliflower cheese with fishcakes but I'd probably have chips or wedges as well
