Orange mobile phone fraud whilst in Afghanistan

Hi,
Can anyone help please?
My husband was in Afghanistan 5 years ago and whilst he was in Afghanistan he had some
fraudulent activity on his phone and somebody managed to use £500 of his phone bill.
My husband fought this for over 2 years and in the end decided to pay it as it wasn't worth the fight. However as it has now affected his credit file he now has a default. This is making our life a misery as we now have a family and can now not get a mortgage we can afford.
Please can anyone help I know it's a long shot but we are desperate.
Thankyou,
Izzy

If this was 5 years ago. When was the default registered?0

The default will come off your husband's credit file six years after being entered.0

Yes the default will come off the credit file 6 years after the account was defaulted.
Unfortunately, your husband made the mistake of not paying the original bill. He really should have paid unless he had already reported the fraud and been advised not to pay while the matter was under investigation. Presumably the matter then went to debt collectors and they persuaded your husband to pay them.
You say that you fought it for two years. How exactly? Without being aware of the exact nature of the alleged fraud, it is difficult to comment but presumably you advised the mobile phone provider and obtained some sort of response from them?
Your OP implies that the default is recent. Are you saying that a default in respect of an account defaulted 5 years ago and settled 3 years ago has only just appeared?
I assume your husband was not in Afghanistan for touristic purposes and that he was probably being very well paid for whatever work he was doing there. I think he could have afforded to pay the £500.0 -
